In the Skateboard Game Of SK8, Ryan Decenzo followed up last year’s gold medal with another this year at X Games Los Angeles. “I’m feeling stoked,” Decenzo said. “I’m really glad that I was able to do those switch rail tricks that I had in my mind because I knew the other competitors don’t really skate rails switch.”
Over at the Skateboard Park course, Pedro Barros brought huge airs and his bowl skating experience to help him score his 3rd gold medal in 8 X Games appearances. “I was just trying to skate my best and have a good time out there and it just happened. I saw Ben [Hatchell] got a higher score and he was killing it so was Rune [Glifberg] so I knew I had to do a better run,” said Barros, “when you’re out there skating your adrenaline is so high you don’t even know what’s going through your mind but focusing on staying on your board.”
The always-popular Skateboard Vert contest took place Saturday afternoon inside the Nokia Theatre and saw Pierre-Luc Gagnon (PLG), one of the best in the business, redeem last year’s silver medal with his 7th X Games gold medal in Skateboard Vert. “This was my first main event of the year and it was good to break the ice with the biggest event,” Gagnon said. “It was a great battle. I wish I would have stomped that last trick but it went really well and this is a lot of weight off my back.”

The Game of SK8 takes place on the X Games street course – it’s a trick matching competition based on the basketball game of H-O-R-S-E. The format features four athletes. The first athlete completes a trick, and the remaining athletes must successfully complete the same trick. If they are unable to do so, they receive a letter. Once an athlete spelled out S-K-8, they are eliminated. The goal is to be the last skater standing.
